All volunteers will receive training. The training includes…

· To be attentive and a good listener

· Non-judgmental

· Updated on breast cancer information

· How to be an active volunteer

 

Selection Criteria

Motivated breast cancer patients 3-8 months after surgery and treatment.

These volunteers assist the breast cancer patients on their road to recovery. They are committed to help achieve maximum recovery physically, psychologically and cosmetically.

* They provide a listening ear
* Help patients overcome the initial shock and trauma of mastectomy/lumpectomy
* To give information on rehabilitation after the operation
* To allay unfounded fears and rumours of the disease
* To provide information on exercises, helpful hints on dressing, bras and breast forms (prosthesis)
* To encourage new patients to attend support group meetings
* To give a telephone contact for contact when needed
