Brief History

Breast Cancer Support Group–Friend’s Hand, was first initiated in the year 2002. It is a voluntary non-profit health organization dedicated to breast cancer patients and survivors and their families. Starting with a group of forty survivors it has grown now with more than 500 survivors, their friends and family and volunteers.

Breast Cancer Service was first initiated in Dhaka in the year 2000 by Dr Hasina Azam at her practice in Conscious Health Services.

Ideas and Aims

The formation of the breast cancer support group is an important service. It is well established in the western countries like the United Kingdom, Australia and the United States. However such services have been identified by many locally and regionally for other cancer and non-cancer groups.

AIM

* To provide emotional support to newly diagnosed women.
* To promote breast cancer awareness.
* To participate as a volunteer in the breast cancer month events and in the support group programs.

Support group members are women who have had breast cancer and have completed surgery and treatment. They have battled the disease and emerged to volunteer their time and share their experience with other women in the same situation.

Goals

Expected Outcomes

Breast cancer women sharing their positive experiences in coping with the disease and treatment can enhance motivation and be encouraging for the newly diagnosed women and family.
